No 1 Chinese Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into No 1 Chinese Restaurant feels like stumbling upon a quietly cherished spot that anchors its community with familiar, comforting flavors. Nestled just off the main road, this unassuming takeout gem carries a relaxed rhythm—unpretentious and steady—where the focus gently rests on the heart of its kitchen craft rather than flashy decor or bustling crowds.
There’s a subtle warmth in the way each order comes together, evident in the aromas that linger just long enough to invite you inside the door. Whether it’s a busy evening or a snow-quiet afternoon, the experience remains consistent: food prepared thoughtfully and served with friendly care, all within a space that feels like it’s quietly holding down a corner of Greencastle’s local taste scene.
The menu offers more than just quick bites—it’s a small, well-versed collection of comforting favorites that suggest familiarity and a hint of home. From the lively snap of chicken wings to soups that carry a gentle, spiced hush, the flavors here don’t shout but rather settle in comfortably, like an old song rediscovered.
Behind the scenes, the open kitchen design allows a glimpse into the process—clean surfaces and masked hands working efficiently to deliver fresh, hot meals. The low-key setting keeps things straightforward: no frills, just a dependable spot where meals arrive promptly and staff respond with genuine attentiveness, making it clear they value the care tucked into every order.
No 1 Chinese Restaurant embodies the kind of easygoing, everyday dining that feels like a quiet conversation with a familiar neighbor. It’s a place where locals trust to satisfy a craving without fuss, and where the food quietly carries the memory of careful preparation—a reminder that good Chinese cooking lives outside the spotlight, in the steady pulse of neighborhoods like this.

The best Chinese food I've had. And I've checked a lot , since I left New York.

Tucked a little out of sight, this mom and pop Chinese food place is going to cook you some decent food. I find I need a bit extra soy sauce since I don't think they use MSG, which is a 50/50 good/bad, in my opinion. They were never rude, understood my questions easily and without repeating, and they did not have a long wait time before bringing the food out. The seating area was as you'd expect in a hole-in-the-wall. Only a handful of tables but ample seating for a medium sized group or family. Prices were very reasonable with a lot of mealy for 8$ and the average stomach could get two meals out of it. Solid 4 stars.

Friendly service, all cooking areas visible from behind glassed partition. Employees masked, surfaces squeaky clean. Currently Order by phone and pick-up only (dining area closed). Food hot, delicious, plentiful, inexpensive, and fast. Best value and experience judging from restaurants in Avon and Greencastle serving Asian food. Highly recommend!
